Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
